Where the trees are across the highway is the proposed location
A store described as a hybrid of Harris-Teeter and Trader Joe’s, German grocer Lidl (pronounced “lee-dle”) has set its sights on Newnan as a location for one of 50 stores they hope to bring to the metro Atlanta area beginning in 2018. Lidl, a direct competitor to Aldi, has filed rezoning plans with Coweta County for a parcel of land on GA Highway 34 near GA Highway 154 across from Glenda Trace and Publix and next door to the new U-HAUL. This plan also includes property that was once a mobile home park that is no longer in operation. In addition to the grocery store, the plans also call for an RV, boat, and self-storage complex to be built behind the store as well as three outparcels to the east of the store proposed for restaurants and/or retail. A public hearing on the rezoning request is scheduled for June 14, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the County Commissioner’s Meeting Room at the County Administration Building, 37 Perry Street, Newnan. The headquarters for Lidl’s U.S. Operations is currently being constructed in Arlington, Virginia.
